Solomon Burke is truly one of popular music’s larger-than-life figures. The Philly-born R&B singer-songwriter’s songs have been covered by artists as diverse as the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, James Brown, and Wilson Pickett.
Solomon Burke was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, and the following year won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album (‘Don’t Give Up On Me’). In 2006 he returned to his country roots with the album ‘Nashville’. The Grammy-nominated ‘Like A Fire’ (with contributions from Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, Keb' Mo', Jesse Harris and producer/drummer Steve Jordan) followed in 2008.
Solomon Burke released ‘Nothing’s Impossible’ in April. His latest offering is a collaboration of two legends of American music - Burke and Willie Mitchell - who joined forces to create an amazing new record full of understated guitar licks and glowing strings. See the self-proclaimed “Legendary King of Rock & Soul” up close and personal in the intimate surroundings of the Jazz Café on July 25th.
